I don't think anyone here thinks that Iran is a bad country, I'm sure it has it's generous share of intelligent individuals as do we. To be honest though, I had no idea there were so many Iranian gamers, I was assuming before entering this thread that you were going to be a U.S. soldier stationed in Iran. I had no expecation that the locals gamed over there. Guess I just figured most videogames would violate religious code, shows how much I know. Kind of makes me happy for some reason, learn something new eveyday. Oh, and welcome to GameSpot :).

Iran is very hospitable? I am gay and my sisters are very out going and love to jog, mingle with men and drink alcohol. Somehow i dont think Iran would accommodate us very well. But what does that have to do with video games right. I'm sure Iranian men love playing COD:MW3 as much as the next guy, just keep the women out of the room when you are playing.

IMHO, Americans and Iranians have such a disparity in cultures, the love of Skyrim could never bring an understanding between them.

This thread is best left to Iranian gamers for whatever purpose the OP created it for EXCEPT if his intent was to unite two cultures in the name of playing games we love.

Persian Market. How Iran navigates the often tricky territory of rating games, by Jeff Cork. Game Informer Australia 15th Dec. 2010. How do nations reconcile their citizens' desire for foreign goods against the need to maintain their own cultural identity? And how do you inspire creativity so that your countrymen can tell their own unique stories? One of the common ways Aussie gamers categorise games is by using an East versus West mentality. Games developed in Japan and other Asian nations fall on one side, and European, North American or ANZ developed titles land in the other - often with their own cultural idiosyncracies and references added in to suit their respective audiences. But what about everybody else? Countries such as Iran import many of their games from the West, which creates an entirely different set of concerns beyond localisation. As a predominantly Islamic nation, Iranian citizens and their government are more sensitive to content that might otherwise go unnoticed here. We talked to Dr. Behrouz Minaei, managing director of Iran's National Foundation of Computer Games, the organisation that oversees Iran's ratings board, to get his perspective on game ratings and to learn more about the challenges his organisation faces. What's appropriate here in Australia and, in particular, New Zealand ( which has an 18+ rating ) may not go over as well in other countries. For example, we're not as sensitive to Nazi iconography appearing in our games as the German government, which prohibits such displays in games. Likewise, games with references to alcohol that might earn a PG rating through our classification board might be banned entirely through an Islamic nation's ratings board. These are some of the issues that Iran's Entertainment Software Rating Association faces. The independent, non-profit organisation was founded in 2007, and is tasked with rating foreign and domestically developed games based on cultural, religious and sociological criteria. "We talked with the Iranian government and said that we can come up with a new ratings system for it", Minaei says. "We had a very long and scientific process to determine what the differences were between Iranian culture and Western or Japanese culture. The result was a ratings system that ranks games on a six point scale. Minaei says titles under review are played by professional gamers, and specialists are brought in to evaluate games for content such as violence, sexual stimuli, hopelessness and sacrilege. Unlike the Classification Board's sliding scale, which maxes out at the MA 15+ rating - reserved for games that should only be played by gamers older than 15 - ESRA's scale affects gamers up to 25. Some games are banned entirely. We looked at some of ESRA's literature, and much of it is universal. Parents worldwide have expressed concern about the effects of media on their children throughout the years, and having an easy-to-understand way of judging content is helpful. Iran's ratings board differs from the classification board in a subtle but significant way. In Australia, our ratings board doesn't try to make a determination as to whether or not games affect a child's development. Instead, the organisation flags certain content - criminal instruction, sexual violence - and assigns ratings based on the type and severity of those flagged items. ESRA begins with the sociological assumption - for better or worse - that children are affected by media and should be protected at critical points in their development. Some of that reasoning is obvious, considering ESRA's evaluation criteria, while other responses are more obscure. Minaei says that ESRA is sensitive in areas where Islamic values are violated, such as attacking Muslim countries, which is one reason that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was banned. Other entries in the series that didn't take place in Middle Eastern nations - fictional or not - didn't face a similar reaction. Most gamers would find little objectionable in the G-rated NBA 2K10, for example, though the game was banned in Iran for reasons we weren't able to determine. It's easy for us to take our ideas of what is and isn't appropriate for granted. Other countries don't necessarily have that luxury. As Minaei says, Western games are exceptionally popular among Iranian gamers, particularly titles such as Prince of Persia and God of War. We don't hear about them very often, but Minaei says that there are more than 10 million gamers in this country, playing games on PC, console and social-networking sites. It's up to Minaei and his organisation to ensure that his countrymen at least know what they're getting into when they play our games.

Lolz. But anyway, on topic. There is no point to this topic. Nobody truly hates every person from a country. When Al-Qaeda attacked us, it gave the whole Muslim religion a stigma in the United States. Just like the crusades gave Christianity a bad name for a while. It sucks, but you deal with it.

lol is this a troll thread?

I love being told how we think.

Sounds like you've been drinking the kool aid of Islam in regards to the western civilization, that many U.S patriots drink about the middle east.
Thankfully with quite a few billion people in these groups, small minded individuals like them and you only make up a small amount of those.

Me? I only see 2 kinds of people on this planet, Humans and Stupid Humans.
Race and Religion I think are stupid concepts and put a great divide between us and our fellow man, and removes logic and common sense from everything.

But hey I say feel free to think and practice what you want, as long as it's not forced upon me and doesn't interfere with my life, because it's only the moment that it does interfere with how I live, or is rammed down my throat, is when people will get issues from myself.

Hey Iran, you're welcome for those Xbox 360s you're playing. You can thank an American company for that one. Seriously.. what's the point of this thread? The TC did nothing but diss the US. What message does that send us about your country?
